5 breakfast places in Port Macquarie, NSW that you need to try

Our criteria is simple – good coffee, good food and great vibes. Here are our five favourites!

1. COAST at Lighthouse beach

Everything about this place is magic.

First you’ll be struck by the 180 degree views of Lighthouse beach. Absolute heaven.

Then you’ll take your first sip of coffee and realise this is the best coffee you’ve had in months.

Next comes the food. The menu is not extensive but everything is there for a reason. A particular shout out must go to the breakfast roll, hailed by locals as the best in town.

Did I mention you can bring your dogs? A dog friendly, morning coffee by the ocean is the vibe we live for.

Come for the coffee. Stay for the view. Then come back again tomorrow!

2. Bittersweet

It’s all in the name – this place not only serves up and excellent breakfast and lunch menu, but some truly delicious cakes, desserts, and freshly baked bread!

Everything about Bittersweet is easy - the staff are lovely, the food comes out quick and even though it’s super popular we always manage to get a seat. There is outdoor setting so doggos are in!

A lunch highlight is the salt and pepper squid salad. Something about that flaked coconut and mango salsa combo is seriously delicious.

The coffee is excellent, and smoothies even better.

On your way out just don’t forget to get a slice of mouth-watering cake for the road!

3. Rainforest café.

Many will know that the beautiful and popular Sea Acres Rainforest Centre offers incredible boardwalk self-guided and guided tours.

But few are aware the centre is also home to a lovely café nestled amongst the trees and the birds, in what feels like is the depths of the forest!

The menu is all day, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the price is right.

And it’s also open on public holidays!

Only con of this place it is not dog friendly. Though if you have sleepy dogs that don’t love mornings (like our Susie) then I am sure they’ll forgive you.

4.       Little Shack

Situated right on the Town Green and along the Breakwall is Little Shack. Little Shack is the perfect all-rounder, while we typically stroll down for breakfast they do a mean feed for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends.

Little Shack feels a little bit old school cool with its aesthetic making it hella cute for all you Instagram influencers out there. Food wise Shack’s Breakky Tacos (mushroom option) are what dreams are made of.

The best part is after you have over done the tacos at breakky you can get dragged along the breakwall by your eager doggos. Pretending that you are really enjoying the view and not question why your stomach doesn’t have clear capacity limits.

5. Sandbox on Flynn’s Beach

This was our go to for a long time whenever we were in Port Mac. Coffee is good, it’s right on the beach and it’s dog friendly.

It can get really busy in peak holiday season and it’s not the most accessible place. Though when it comes to the food you really can’t go wrong.

Although we don’t have any spuds ourselves, it’s a good option for the kids with a nice grass area and a clear line of visibility from the deck to the sand.
